About Our Club
Immortal Karate and Kickboxing is affiliated with the English Contact Karate Association (E.C.K.A), and operates under the standards set by the English Karate Federation (EKF).
Our grading structure follows the E.C.K.A syllabus, with examinations usually led by our Chief Instructor, Sensei Dev Barrett. Student progression is based on more than just physical ability—understanding technique, applying movements correctly, consistency in training, and demonstrating respect and discipline all play a key role.
Once registered, students receive a licence along with a syllabus guide to support their development. A valid licence is required for training, gradings, competitions, and access to additional opportunities such as squad sessions.
Padwork Training
During padwork, techniques and combinations are practised using focus pads or paddles held by a partner.
The priority is always on accuracy, timing, and control rather than force. Students are carefully coached on both striking and pad holding, with instructors supervising closely to maintain a safe training environment.
Bagwork Training
In bagwork sessions, students develop their striking skills using punch bags under the guidance of an instructor. These sessions reinforce technique, balance, and coordination, with an emphasis on controlled execution to minimise injury risk.
Controlled Sparring/ Technique Drills
Sparring is an important part of learning, but it is always approached in a safe and structured way. Before taking part, students are briefed on the importance of control, respect, and awareness when working with a partner.
The focus is on technical sparring—not power or aggression. Students are expected to remain in control at all times and avoid reckless movements. If a student feels uncomfortable at any point, they are encouraged to speak with an instructor so the situation can be addressed promptly.
What to Expect in a Session
Each session is designed to build well-rounded skills and may include:
Shadow boxing
Pad and bag drills
Footwork exercises
Fitness and conditioning
Strength development
Head movement techniques
Structured sparring practice
All training is delivered under the supervision of experienced and qualified coaches, ensuring a professional and supportive atmosphere.
Required Sparring Equipment
To take part in sparring, students must wear full protective equipment. This helps reduce the risk of injury for both participants.
Equipment includes:
Headguard
Boxing gloves (10oz for under 16s, 16oz for over 16s)
Gumshield
Chest protector (female students)
Groin guard (male students)
Shin guards
Students are responsible for bringing their own equipment and ensuring it is safe and in good condition.
Our Approach to Safety
A variety of training equipment is used, including kick shields, Thai pads, and body protectors. All equipment is checked regularly to ensure it meets safety standards.
Our goal is to create a training environment that is disciplined, respectful, and enjoyable—while always maintaining the highest level of safety through proper supervision and structured coaching.
If you want, I can make it sound more high-end, more beginner-friendly, or more “hardcore gym” depending on the vibe you want for your brand.
